How to find a pilot for a private jet

Posted on

When you’ve bought a private jet, you would want to hire a pilot, especially if you don’t know how to fly yourself. Since you might not have time to learn how to fly your jet by yourself, hiring a pilot can save you time and the hassle of learning to fly.

1. Put up some ads on places like Monster.com or craigslist. The simple fact is that with so many airlines firing their pilots, there are likely to be many pilots looking for work right now that would apply to be your pilot.

2. Be clear on how much you are willing to pay a pilot. Pilots have a very specific skill and they often require being paid much more than you might be able to afford or that you would consider reasonable. Keep the amount reasonable, but make sure you are clear on how much you will pay.

3. Be ready for negotiations. Though you should be clear on payment, pilots are going to want to negotiate, especially those that have years of experience. Pilots with experience are used to being paid well for their skills, so you might find that they will try getting more. Don’t be inflexible, but make sure you are able to afford what you offer them. Don’t let them talk you above what you are willing and able to pay them.

4. Be choosy. You are likely to get many applications, especially since many pilots don’t necessarily have other skills they can use to get a different job. If you get a few different people to choose from, be choosy and pick the pilot that is best for your needs.
